Celebrating Lunar New Year!

Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the year according to the lunar calendar. The celebration begins with the new moon that occurs sometime between January 21st and February 20th, and festivities last until the following full moon. Lunar New Year is celebrated in many East Asian countries and cultures with a festival, rich in symbolism and traditions — including family reunions, colorful paper lanterns, animals of the zodiac, lion and dragon dances, fireworks, poems exchanged with loved ones, and gifts of money nestled inside red envelopes. These traditions represent hopes and aspirations for the year — longevity, peace, prosperity, unity, and good luck. Dip into these wonderful picture books about the Lunar New Year in different countries.
