John Gabrieli: What are the causes of reading difficulties?

John Gabrieli discusses possible causes of reading difficulties. For some children, genetics play a role; for others, environmental factors increase risk. In early grades, the same interventions are effective regardless of the underlying cause. In later grades, however, students that experience reading difficulties due to environmental factors will require different types of support.
