Does reading work differently in different languages?

Despite differences in sounds and writing systems, reading tends to work in the same way across languages. Regarding reading difficulties, Dr. Mark Seidenberg explains that while causes are universal, exhibited behaviors might differ across languages.

Dr. Mark Seidenberg is Vilas Research Professor and Donald O. Hebb Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a cognitive scientist/neuroscientist/psycholinguist who has studied language, reading, and dyslexia for more than 30 years.
