Christina Cipriano, PhD: Unique Challenges and Considerations for Paraprofessionals

Educational support professionals—from paraprofessionals who work with high needs students to bus drivers—play a critical role in the safety and social-emotional well-being of students and colleagues. During the pandemic, many schools cut, laid-off, or furloughed support professions, missing an important opportunity to engage them and expand their roles in the much-needed connection among students and all faculty and staff.

Dr. Cipriano is an Applied Developmental and Educational Psychologist, and Director of the Education Collaboratory at Yale. Her research focuses on the role of social and emotional learning (SEL) in the promotion of pathways to optimal developmental outcomes for traditionally marginalized student and teacher populations.
