You know, I think the island gave me a lot of what I use as an inspiration for my work. You know, I went to school, I was a child from, you know, an average family. My parents were university professors, I had a lot of friends. But, you know, I remember very clearly that when I
we went out to play at recess, we actually played, you know, game songs in Spanish.
And through song I learned how much fun one can have.
I really had a very, very wonderful, happy childhood. I don’t know whether I’d choose to remember it this way or whether it was this way, but it was
it is something that up to today I feel that that island has given me so much that I can draw upon in order to put it into the pages of the books that I either write or illustrate.
