In 1990, the year Autistic Journalist Eric Garcia was born — the same year the American for Disability Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act were passed — the idea that neurodiverse people were not special or damaged but deserving of the same rights and opportunities as everyone else was relatively new.
