As an autistic person, parent, and former teacher, Author and Autism Advocate Jennifer Cook knows the power of helping — allowing — kids to tap into their special interests. In fact, she says, there is no better way for teachers and parents to coax an autistic student out of their shell and help them develop their sense of self than by using that special interest as a bridge to better developing social skills, academic skills, etc.
