The ABCs of Active Reading

Reading to your kids is fun, but reading with your kids can shape their future. When you engage with your kids while reading, they learn new words, new ideas, and new ways to comprehend the world around them. It’s what we call Active Reading.

Follow the ABCs of Active Reading to get your kids excited about reading and help them on the path to academic success:

A: Ask questions that get kids thinking about the story
B: Build vocabulary by focusing on new words
C: Connect the story to your kids' world

Just 15 minutes a day three times a week can help build children's vocabulary, language and comprehension. For more information about active reading go to ReadCharlotte.org.

Funding for this video provided by Wells Fargo in support of Read Charlotte's goal to double the percentage of third graders reading on grade level to 80% by 2025.
