Oliver really, really wanted a brother and so, understandably tries to exchange his baby sister in this very funny and highly familiar family tale. Lighthearted illustrations add to the humor and the story’s satisfying conclusion.

Henry is an Australian shepherd with no tail but he longs for a special appendage like his canine friends. His efforts to secure one are fruitless, but Henry finds something even more important. Line and wash illustrations add humor and verve to the pun-filled text.

No matter how much her parents’ actions disconcert the narrator (like kissing her in public!) the benefits (unconditional love) ultimately outweigh any embarrassment. Expressive cartoons reveal the parents’ perspective in this gently humorous, recognizable saga.

The Puddle family is an eccentric group for whom agreement doesn’t come easily. The story of their trip together is made even more humorous and offbeat when their dogs (accidentally left behind) tell of their journey to catch up with the Puddles. Intersecting stories share aloud well.
