Have you ever had a day that started out with everything going wrong? Well, yesterday started out that way for me. But you know what? It wound up just fine – in fact, there were lovely surprises by the end of the day.

Young children have bad days, too. But they may not have the storehouse of experience to readily handle it or even acknowledge that even the deepest felt misery is usually temporary. They need both time and language to handle their emotions. (opens in a new window)

Sharing a book that wears well can help children recognize that they’re not alone when they have a bad day, and even the worst day can turn around. Kevin Henkes’ new book, A Good Day (opens in a new window)(Greenwillow) is ideal for the youngest reader to present this notion and more. Not only is there an authentic emotional quality to this handsome book, children can also explore colors, animals, habitats, and more. The sky is the limit with a good book in hand.

So, here’s hoping that your day is a good one!
