Portraits of Struggling Readers

Whether you're a parent, a teacher, or a community member, you may have a child in your life who isn't as successful with reading as you think he or she could be. But not all reading difficulties look the same, and not all reading difficulties should be addressed in the same way.

If you can identify what the area of difficulty is, you can tailor your help to the needs of one child. However, identifying the area of difficulty can be challenging, especially since children having problems with one aspect of reading often struggle in other areas as well. Compare the child in your life to the children in these portraits, and see if the difficulties they face are familiar to you.
